Written Directives: General Orders In order to help promote transparency, the MPD has posted policy statements issued by the Chief of Police (e.g., general orders, executive orders, and other directives) that are currently in effect for the department. Manuals are issued to prescribe policies, rules, regulations and procedures. In police work, like many other professions, it is not possible to anticipate every situation that may arise or to prescribe a specific course of action in each scenario, therefore we expect all employees to exercise common sense and good judgment.
